Thanks guys for your suggestions. Digital volume is a bit tricky. Some people find it useful, some people hate it. It does reduce dynamic range of a DA converter, but I can see it useful in multichannel systems with separate stereo DACs without volume synchronization. The point is, it won't be too much effort for us to implement it into the new board and the control signals in the OPPO are aby AP - News & Announcements

USB audio port is basically an USB sound card - you plug it into your computer/phone where it appears as an audio device. It is different thing from audio files playback from USB flash or HDD drives. Check specs for BDP-105, this one has USB audio.by AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi David, The OPPO has variable volume feature indeed. This feature is implemented using the volume control setting of the on board DAC, which gets replaced by the VanityHD board. The VanityHD board does not support this functionality. Mainly for the fact that purely digital volume control is perceived as inferior by many people because it reduces the dynamic range of the DA conversion process.by AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi highstream, For CD playback you get the output digital signal reclocked with the Vanity's buffer based clock loop. I believe that BDP-103 doesn't have USB audio input (only 105 has it). If you mean the media playback from USB drives that the same applies as for the CD/DVD (PCM in general). Hope it helps. Hi guys, A quick update regarding the supported sample rates. Although many previews mentioned 384kHz and 768kHz PCM and DSD128 in multichannel and DSD256 in stereo, the official specifications remain quite conservative: Audio format support has been expanded to multi-channel DSD64/128, as well as 192kHz/24-bit PCM used in high-resolution lossless formats such AIFF, ALAC, APE, FLAC and WAV. Hi jjk, JRiver is a computer music player, I cannot see a way how to connect it to the OPPO or the VanityHD. The VanityHD replaces the player's analogue outputs with digital ones and that's it. It doesn't not provide any additional connectivity with a computer. Unless you want to feed the multi channel digital audio into a computer via multi channel sound card, do sw room processiby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Well, Such behavior of the OPPO is totally undocumented and needs to be verified by trial&error case by case. The reason is that the player has to maintain HDMI compatibility and if the HDMI downstream device reports that it cannot handle raw DSD then the player automatically switches SACD playback from DSD to PCM (OPPO converts DSD to PCM itself). If you turn the HDMI outputs off, then natby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi there, The VanityHD board has no effect on functionality of the HDMI ports (outputs). Not sure about the USB as I believe the USB ports cannot act as an output anyway. There is one catch with the HDMI and raw DSD format though. Please have look into the VanityHD settings guide where there is a full description of the whole thing. Hi guys, AES/EBU has the same specs as SPDIF, the only difference is the voltage levels, differential signaling and some sub-channel information. Therefore the limits are the same: 192kHz/24Bits stereo. Theoretically we could have a 384kHz SPDIF transmitter in the FPGA, but there is no point of doing so. As for the physical and electrical compatibility of UDP-203 and the VanityHD103 I am veryby AP - News & Announcements
Hi there, There are some early previews of the new OPPO out already saying that the player can serve up PCM, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC and WAV audio up to 384kHz/32-bit, multi-channel DSD64/128 and even two-channel DSD256. It is apparent that a digital output module (Vanity203) won't be able to output all the material bit accurate due to 192kHz limit of the SPDIF output. May I get some opinions herby AP - News & Announcements
Hi Miko71, I believe that quite a few people are using multiple PSAudio DS with volume sync for multi channel. Stacking multiple stereo DACs is not very common, alternatively one can try multi channel pro-audio DACs. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi highstream, There is no relationship between 103's USB ports and the VanityHD board. Of course you can use USB storage (flash drive) attached to 103's USB ports to play back audio into the PS Audio DS via VanityHD, but that is about it. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Miko71, The unused white connectors MUST be left unconnected for optimal performance. The sleeve of the vertical pair (red and white) is internally connected (by connector design) and carrying useful signal. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Which version do you have and what do you want to use it for ?by AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
All versions of the VanityHD boards do DSD to PCM conversion. It is the default operation mode. DSD downmix or DoP are additional features the user can enable or disable. But the DSD to PCM conversion is always available. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi all, You may have noticed there are various versions of the VanityHD board available. To make sure you pick the right one for you, here is a quick explanation of the differences. The VanityHD is basically the name for the whole family of the Vanity boards for the BDP-103. There are two hardware and two software options. The two hardware options are SPDIF and AES outputs. HI Mjay71, Just a quick response. - If you DAC can accept 192kHz, there is no reason to feed it with 88.2kHz. Especially when there are all the filters (including those for 88.2kHz) available at 176.4kHz setting. - The "best" filter setting depends on many aspects and properties of the entire reproduction chain, therefore I don't think there is one universal answer to this queby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Mjay71, First of all the original Vanity module is obsolete and we don't manufacture it any more. We had to tailor the firmware for every single player model, the installation was too complicated (soldering and drilling the back panel), etc. The feature set of the HD board is nicely ballanced to give the best results for most common applications. It handles all PCM sampling rates, DSD vby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Mjay71, Thank you for your question. Correctly implemented external upsampling and bypassing the DAC's internal filters is indeed always beneficial in terms of audio quality. The original Vanity and the Avarice was aimed to do this job on two channel stereo audio. The VanityHD is a different story and its primary purpose is to de-jitter the digital audio signals and do format conversioby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Genoaz, Thank you for your question. The philosophy is that for each output sampling frequency there are two filters available - sharp and slow. The sharp filters have 1024 coefficients and they are optimized for the widest frequency bandwidth with maximum stop band attenuation. The corner frequency for 88.2kHz is about 20kHz and 44kHz for 176.4kHz. Slow filters have only 512 coefficientsby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
I see. Well, depending on the WC and SPDIF implementation in your DBX it could have a massive impact as well as none. ASRC never helps the sound (unless the digital input is really crap), so I certainly understand your "need". If there is any other version of the VanityHD board we will definitely consider adding a WC output as it is something relatively easy to do. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi all, some news regarding the CZAP. - We have developed and implemented a new upsampling filter algorithm which doesn't use zero stuffing. This new technique relaxes the filtering requirements and also allowed us to add Non-Oversampling option. There are now 4 filter characteristics available. These include a traditional linear phase SHARP , our proprietary "no-ringing" FLAT,by AP - News & Announcements

Hi there, Unfortunately the word clock input cannot be easily added because it is the OPPO player what dictates the main clocking of the system. What can be easily added is a word clock output, so other downstream devices can be WC synchronized. WC is certainly useful in some scenarios, especially in studios where many devices such as ADCs, DACs, SRCs, mixing consoles, etc can work in the same cby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
