Hi Steve, That's quite unusual discovery! Please read through this forum, there should be enough information how VanityHD users build their multichannel systems. The board is good for stereo as well. You only need a decent external DAC to convert audio from SPDIF to analogue and you are good to go. I guess you shouldn't have troubles selling the card if you decide to do so, but in thatby AP - News & Announcements
Hi all, We have been getting quite a few inquiries via the contact form on the website about the Nixie Clock - availability, price, etc. I would like to run a small survey here and if there are enough people genuinely interested we could run a small production batch and make the clock available for sale again. At the same time we have a couple of ideas how to improve the design, so this mby AP - News & Announcements
Hi Joyousfish, I see. Well you certainly won't be able to use the VanityHD module for anything else, but I get your point. What would you want to feed such multi-channel module from? USB or HDMI or something else? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi, Good news! The forum is now back to normal operation . If you experience any issues, please send us a message or an email from the main website. Thank you. Regards, Pavelby AP - News & Announcements
Hi all, We are going through some general website and forum updates and maintenance . Therefore you may experience occasional limitation or complete unavailability of services. For example, new users cannot be created at the moment, but we are expecting to be back to normal operation within a couple of days. Thank you for your patience! Hi there, Just in case you haven't noticed , we have redesigned the main Audiopraise website to give it a new fresh look! Regards, Pavelby AP - News & Announcements
Hi, Ok, I see what you want to connect it to, but can I ask how you want to feed the module with audio signals? The whole idea of the Vanity203 module is a single-purpose retro-fit board dedicated for the UDP-203 player from OPPO. Trying to use it any other way, i.e. modifying it for a different universal player, would be very difficult if not impossible. Are you thinking about something like aby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi there, Counter question. Assuming that you know roughly how the Vanity203HD works, what would you want to use it for without the OPPO player? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi sabuton, I am afraid you will have to give us more details. I really cannot tell what the problem is from one sentence. Please describe HOW the sound gets interrupted first. Second, describe in detail your reproduction chain, which DAC you use, what your Vanity card settings are, etc. Provide as much information as you can, then we will have a chance to help you. Thanks. Since the audio data is reclocked to the Vanity's clock domain the output clock comes from the local oscillators. Otherwise it would be out of sync. The differences between I2S and SPDIF as transportation methods will greatly depend on concrete implementations, so it is difficult to give any general advices which one is better. I have seen a company selling an "isolated I2S output modulby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi jamieb, Interesting question. I assume you are talking specifically about UDP-203. I have been using BDP-103 with loads of various HDMI devices with absolutely no issues in terms of pops and clicks when changing HDMI sources. My UDP-203 is a secondary unit at the moment with no HDMI devices attached. I will surely try it later. In theory the pops and click should go away if you turn the Oby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi Michael, Now I see what you mean. Although the preliminary specs of the UDP203 mentioned support for up to 384kHz and DSD256 the production version can reliably playback only sampling rates up to 192kHz. Just like the BDP-103. The only extra thing in UDP-203 is DSD128 playback which is rubbish anyway, because DSD128 is internally converted to PCM. Therefore the main advantage of the I2S outpuby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
HI Mjay71, Not sure which resolution you mean, but I2S is natively 32 bit, audio going though is usually 24 bits padded to 32 bit frame. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi all, JVB have put together a list of setups with Vanity203HD from their customers. We will keep updating the list so everyone can see all the different configurations the VanityHD boards can work with. If you wish to have your setup listed, please feel free to send me a PM or email. Hi David, Thank you for your report. I am glad to see another instance of the I2S interface working. The DPPL bandwidth on Sabre chips is a known thing, hope you didn't spend too much time trying to figure out where the dropouts are coming from Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi rajapruk, I am afraid there is no provision on the board to physically output I2S. There are no accessible pins or signal lines on the FPGA. Is upgrading to 203 a big deal? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)

It seems that UDP-203 should be available at least until the end of this year. Distributors seem to be well stocked up, get your OPPO while you canby AP - News & Announcements
Hi Louis8865, Could you please be more specific? I am not sure if I understand your question correctly. In general, anything that you can get from the original analogue outputs you can also get via the VanityHD board in digital form. The original coax port is not involved at all as its capabilities are somewhat restricted. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Mjay71, The filter bandwidth really depends on how well the downstream devices (DAC, amp, etc) can cope with elevated high frequency noise levels. Remember, filtering is always a trade-off between frequency and time domain properties. In layman's words, narrow filter should give you cleaner signal without HF rubbish at the expense of longer impulse response. Wide filter keeps the impulsby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)

Hi beessy, If I remember correctly the output level with the AES version is circa 2.5Vpp unterminated and 1.2V terminated. AES/EBU voltage levels should be >1Vpp. With the VanityHD board the only difference between SPDIF and AES really is just the voltage level when terminated with different loads. Hence AES3id and SPDIF with the VanityHD is virtually identical. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Really sad news. It must have been a shock for a lot of OPPO player owners and brand supporters. Without going into too much detail, our approach is to wait until the situation gets more clear in terms of player's availability and software updates. Then we will see where we go with the Vanity module series.by AP - News & Announcements
Hi Alex, Which combination is causing the issues? Is it when you insert the Mutec between the Vanity103HD and the Devialet D1000? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi Alex, As far as I can tell the Mutec MC3 is some kind of jittery digital audio signal cleaner with DDS clock synthesizer. I guess it works in a similar way as our Buffer Locked Loop with signal buffering but using DDS clock rather than low noise tunable oscillators. Hi there, In this post I would like to share some technical details about using the Vanity203HD with DACs based on very popular ESS Sabre DAC chips (ES9018, ES9016, ES9038PRO, ES9028PRO and others, including the mobile versions). As you may know the ESS DACs implement a jitter reduction circuit that in principle works similarly to the Vanity's BLL (Buffer Locked Loop), but uses resampling tby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)

Hi Denis, Unfortunately it is not. The BDT-101 is mechanically and electrically completely different and it would require to design a dedicated module for this model. Sorry for bad news. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
