Auto-switching between Repeater/Extractor modes based on source stream

I currently route the output of my HT PC into the Vanity Pro. Depending on the source, bitstream or PCM, I switch the HDMI mode between "Repeater" and "Extractor". The input on my surround processor also changes accordingly. I would love for this detection and switching happen automatically in the Vanity Pro. Alternatively, it would be great if once could have a serial interface into the Vanity Pro to make the switch command based if the detection logic is difficult or not possible to implement. My equipment is in a separate room and I often switch between music content that is in Dolby Atmos or PCM. In the case of PCM, I often upsample the content through HQPlayer.

I was exchanging emails with Pavel about this and he suggested moving this to the forum to see if others might be interested.

Unfortunately, no response to this thread! I went ahead and got a HDMI splitter and this serves my need of either passing a bitstream straight to the SSP or routing a decoded bitstream on my HTPC through the Vanity Pro. One additional piece of equipment, the HDMI splitter, and some HDMI cables, but this works.

One question for AudioPraise: is the HDMI repeater path doing any signal cleanup? It still seems to be the routing the signal even in repeater mode might have some sonic benefit, but it is too soon to say. A 2nd question is whether the chipset used in the Vanity Pro offers a way to output the audio signal over both HDMI and AES outputs.

Thx,
Sumit.

Hi Sumit,
Sorry to see that your suggestion hasn't caught much attention. To answer your question, there is no special "HDMI signal clean up" function in the HDMI chip, but there still might be some quality benefit of running the HDMI signal through due to the quality power design, galvanic isolation from the rest of the product and simply high quality level of the implementation itself.
We would need to double check, but as far as I know the audio from the HDMI input can be wither extracted and output via SPDIF/AES, or passed through to the HDMI output. Most likely not both at the same time, but we will check this.
Regards,
Pavel

Pavel,
Did you get a chance to see whether the chipset you use can support both extraction and passthrough concurrently?

Thx,
Sumit.
