Hello, We have made an interesting contact with AlpineSoft, based in the UK, who are the creators of a tool called VinylStudio. The tool was originally designed to make recordings of old analogue sources such as tapes and vinyl, but after they added support for DSD and DoP recordings it has become something very unique. I am not aware of any other piece of software that would allow for live DoPby AP - Digital Audio Technology
Hi Fred-ql, Thanks for poking us here! The USB output board has been on a back burner for a while and we only had a few modules with people in field for testing and for us to collect some feedback. Incidentally, with getting parts and boards manufactured for the Power Supply unit (VanityPSU) the USB module is in the manufacturing process too. I know it has been quite some time and thank you forby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Bas, Thanks for the update! I am glad to hear that the problem has been resolved. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - VanityPRO
Gentlemen, We will of course look into this again. In the VanityPRO the HDMI pass through just copies video part of the EDID from TX port to RX port (from TV back to PC/Player/streamer) and adds its own audio part of EDID. We plan to expand the EDID editor functionality in the next firmware release with stereo/multichannel speaker configurations and selectable LPCM/DSD/bitstream support to fineby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Michael, No problem, we stand behind our products no matter how old. May I kindly ask you to PM me any observations such as how often it happens, if it shows up every time with a regular pattern or of it is more random. Also, does it happen with all DSD material such as SACD discs and DSF files or just one specific format? Simply any information that would help us to replicate it on our side.by AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Michael, This is very interesting observation and to me it looks like it is more likely coming from the Vanity rather than the A6. The reason behind that is if there was any corruption of data on the A6 side, it would not stay in the DSD/DoP mode. Your description of the issue is fairly detailed and very useful. I still might have an engineering sample card available so I can give it a go andby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Michael, The coaxial output setting applies only to the OPPO's own digital coax output , so in relation to the Vanity103 board the setting does not matter. It is not about processing, in fact the is no processing the OPPO can do for its digital audio output other than decode AC3 and other bit streams to LPCM. That is all the setting does. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Michael, All right! I am glad you got it working . Of course there is always a possibility that something is not configure correctly. With the chapter thing I got stuck myself wondering why my DVDs are always playing 48kHz only, but that was quite some time ago. Maybe it will help someone too. The rule of thumb is that all unnecessary processing should be off to start with and then you onlyby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hello all, It has been a while since we announced something new last time, but despite the slower summer holiday season we are happy to show you the VanityPSU ! It is a very low-noise linear power supply unit designed specifically for the VanityPRO, but is can be also used as an universal linear power supply. It has three independent power rails, two with 5V and one with 12V output. Each 5V rby AP - News & Announcements
Hi Michael, Just a quick thought, are you sure you are playing a hi-res "chapter" of a BD or DVD-A disc? I believe that by default, the first chapter is always just 48kHz tracks. You can also check the booklet to see which audio formats are available on the disc. Not all BDs have 96kHz or 192kHz tracks. On the OPPO103 the chapter indicator is in the status line when you press the GOTOby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi Bob, Let me help you with debugging. Do you have any HDMI splitter or multiplexer between the AppleTV and the VanityPRO? If so, please connect it directly to see if the splitter messes up with the EDID. The EDID editor in the VanityPRO plays a role only of there is nothing connected to the HDMI OUT port. This way the editor can alter the internal video EDID data. If there is a TV or screeby AP - VanityPRO
Hi alc_aardvark, The reason for ARC (only) is fairly simple. Certain properties of the HDMI interface we required for the VanityPRO operation were only available in non eARC HDMI chipset. With eARC silicon devices available these days eARC integration would not be a massive issue, but usability in the VanityPRO is still questionable. eARC equipped sources (TVs) rarely send raw multichannel in PCby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Thomas, OK, I understand. It is pretty normal that a DAC - digital receiver in a DAC - unlocks upon sampling frequency change or a brief signal interruption. That all depends on implementation of the digital audio source. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Thomas, Good to heat that you managed to get the unit into the firmware upgrade mode! The "trick" with ESS chips is that sometimes the DPLL setting (time constants for the internal ASRC) are set too aggressively by manufacturers in attempt to make it "sound better". Usually, the only effect is making the DAC over-sensitive to any kind of frequency control on the side ofby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Thomas, To put the unit into firmware update mode, you need to restart the unit with the following sequence: - Switch the power of the audio side OFF, or unplug the power cable. - Then press and hold the encoder knob and turn the power back on. - Wait for a second or two before you release the knob. There might not be any visual indication of the unit being turned on until you starby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Bas303, Thanks for your question. The setup you have described is very common and all components are proven many times to work well together. In order to resolve your issue, let me summarize the info provided and ask a few questions. - You are running the latest VanityPRO firmware V5.1 - The VanityPRO is connected to the OPPO205 and 4x XLR output goes to OKTO DAC8 PRO. - DPLL setting on thby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Falcon91Wolvrn03, It looks like you haven't been able to load the HDMI firmware correctly. That is why you are getting the HDMI error when you try to load the main firmware. Can you please share more information about your computer/windows version? Does the main firmware load correctly? You can always try to load the HDMI firmware again, in case it failed the first time. Best Regards,by AP - VanityPRO
Hi Bob, Thanks for this! We will test on our side with the AppleTV and let you know. From our experience most HDMI sources (players) would have no issues playing 4k video along with 8 channel LPCM, so it is probably to do with AppleTV. Let' see. Also, thanks for the links for the HDMI mux and the EDID editor. Regards, Pavelby AP - VanityPRO
HI fabry660, No worries, I would say it won't make a huge difference, but I would probably use the OPPO for the job. As long as you are not going to change the speaker arrangement too often for the convenience factor to count in, the OPPO is probably a good place to do the basic speaker management processing. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi cert, I2S interface that doesn't need clocks? Can you please share some details? I cannot imagine how such device would work without any means of synchronization of the data stream. I don't think this is gonna work, but feel free to share more details and maybe we can find a way around. Regards, Pavelby AP - Digital Audio Technology
Hi Bob, Thank you for your post! I am glad you have finally found some time to play with the VanityPRO The issue you are describing is quite strange. There hasn't been any complaint about sensitivity or stability of the HDMI input. Also, not sure how the firmware would affect this. But the HDMI indicator colour change certainly points to this direction. On the other hand, you get dropouby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Maabb, As I said above, there are too many variable to be able to advise. Which device is controlled by the Logitech remote? I assume it is the Marantz. Then I would look into the manual if it supports CEC control and which direction. Same for the display/TV (if you actually have one). Please get in touch with JVB (https://www.oppostore.nl/en/vanitypro.html) to discuss the demo, but I stronglby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Maabb, Thank you for your question. The proposed scenario is quite complex, and I seem to miss some details to be able to tell if it is gonna all work the way you picture it. Let me put a few comments below. - Do the HDMI outputs from your processor still output HDMI audio? Does the Marantz work just as a HDMI switch between multiple sources (AppleTV, DIrectTV, etc.) or does it also performby AP - VanityPRO
Hi fabry660, Since it is relatively simple operation, I would say it doesn't matter where the speaker management is done. But if your pre HTS does some more sophisticated processing, it might be a better idea to leave everything to the processor and leave the oppo just as a digital transport for bit accurate audio. What is your theatre processor that you are using? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203HD (discontinued)
Hi bas303, Thank you for your question. Other users have raised the same question before. We are working on porting the firmware loader onto other platforms already. I cannot give you ETA right now, but it is an active project and I will give progress update in a couple weeks time. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - VanityPRO

Hello Frank, At the moment, there is no audio delay adjustment in the VanityPRO. There is still some RAM left in the FPGA to implement a small delay line - in 8 channels the resources are disappearing quickly - and we will consider the implementation in due course. I understand your intended application and associated requirements, but I am afraid this is something completely different league. Dby AP - VanityPRO
Hi Michael, Sorry for a slower response. Some of the Vanity103 owners reported that the sound has improved even further with the linear PSU mod of the OPPO player. Not by a huge amount, but there difference was definitely noticeable. I have no personal experience, just passing info from others, but I am happy to believe that. If you remove the relatively high power switching PSU with all associaby AP - Vanity103HD & Lite (discontinued)
Hi ReinaldoAdamo, You are absolutely right. That should be the first thing to check if your HDMI source can decode all the compressed formats and output raw PCM or DSD. Which is usually the case for most players, streamers, etc. Chris mentioned in his first post that his processor can output PCM, so it should be all good. Best Regards, Pavelby AP - VanityPRO
