Really sad news. It must have been a shock for a lot of OPPO player owners and brand supporters. Without going into too much detail, our approach is to wait until the situation gets more clear in terms of player's availability and software updates. Then we will see where we go with the Vanity module series.by AP - News & Announcements
Hi Alex, Which combination is causing the issues? Is it when you insert the Mutec between the Vanity103HD and the Devialet D1000? Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi Alex, As far as I can tell the Mutec MC3 is some kind of jittery digital audio signal cleaner with DDS clock synthesizer. I guess it works in a similar way as our Buffer Locked Loop with signal buffering but using DDS clock rather than low noise tunable oscillators. I don't have any personal experience with this unit, but knowing the limitations of state-of-the-art DDS clock generators I wouby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi there, In this post I would like to share some technical details about using the Vanity203HD with DACs based on very popular ESS Sabre DAC chips (ES9018, ES9016, ES9038PRO, ES9028PRO and others, including the mobile versions). As you may know the ESS DACs implement a jitter reduction circuit that in principle works similarly to the Vanity's BLL (Buffer Locked Loop), but uses resampling to a fby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi highstream, Please bear with us, hopefully we should have some step-by-step guide with photos ready soon. I assume the tricky part for most users will be deciding how to fit the HDMI output module to the player. You can either make a hole in the back panel for the HDMI connector and fixing screws or leave the HDMI module outside the player and use a flat ribbon cable (connected to the on-boaby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi Denis, Unfortunately it is not. The BDT-101 is mechanically and electrically completely different and it would require to design a dedicated module for this model. Sorry for bad news. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi Dave, Please have a look at this thread. Hope it helps. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi all, There have been some questions how to connect the I2S output from the Vanity203HD board to a DAC with I2S input via HDMI or RJ45. Let's recap the I2S port description from the user manual: For added flexibility the Vanity203HD features an on-board 14 pin IDC header with 8 channel I2S output, master-clock signal, ground and 3V3 power signals. The master-clock signal is either 22.by AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi Arthur, As for the downmix functionality, it is the same as for the Vanity103HD - 4.0 downmix for DSD playback. It does not work with PCM material, but for PCM you can use player's own downmix capabilities. Please have a look into the manual (another thread) for details. Hope it helps. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi Adrian, Thank you very much for your comprehensive post about linear power supplies. There are other people trying to find some details about such upgrade and I am sure your post will be very useful to them. On the technical matters I can only agree that the OPPO is a well built product, but nevertheless still a consumer/commodity hardware. The stock power supply has multiple rails with justby AP - Digital Audio Technology
Hi antilles, Sorry, no plans for a TOSLINK version. A few reasons: Optical transmitters wouldn't mechanically fit, there are not many DACs capable of 192kHz over optical link, a standard TOSLINK significantly affects system jitter which the Vanity is trying to suppress/eliminate. If you wish to feed you DAC optically I guess you can use some off the shelf coax to optical adapter. Hope it helpsby AP - Vanity203 HD
This one is quite funny. A spam post that contained a goofy link wrapped into a relevant topic about MQA. I decided to leave the post here (with the link removed), because MQA actually is a quite interesting topic. Interestingly enough, we have been in touch with the MQA people and working on the MQA implementation on the FPGA platform. We are not quite there yet, but hopefully soon enough we shoby AP - Digital Audio Technology
Hi there, Finally I had some time to play around with the filters again and export the plots. The order of the filters below is #1,#2,#3 and #4. As described in the manual, #1 and #2 are sharp and slow filter for 88.2kHz sampling frequency, #3 and #4 are sharp and slow for 176.4kHz. #1 #2 #3 #4 Please feel free to ask further questions. Hi Dave, We have one of the prototype boards with a guy from this forum and he will trial the I2S link between the Vanity203 and his DACs for us and everyone else. In theory the I2S should give a better sound for dozen of reasons, let's see how the trial goes. If you look into the User manual (another thread), you will see that the I2S output is provided on an on-board connector with 3V3 CMOSby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi all, We have finished the user manual, which now includes everything related to the board. It covers installation, settings, AES mod, and description of all features. If you still don't know what features the new board has, have a look into the manual! Any feedback is more than welcome. You may notice that now the manual is now JVB branded. The board will be selling exclusively via JVB, so iby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi all, Everyone who contributed with feature suggestions, here is a small thank you: Vanity203HD Introductory Discount. The offer might get extended, but don't hesitate. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Hi David, Do you need BDP-103D (Darbee) or would standard BDP-103 be ok? We might have one spare 103 for sale (with or without Vanity103). Please let us know. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity103 HD & Lite
Thank you everyone for your help and offers for testing the Vanity 203HD board. We already have picked someone to carry out the in-field testing. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD

Hi guys, I guess I owe you some update. We are about to sign off the VanityHD203 board - hardware as well as software. There are a few new features: - On-board I2S header. 8 channel I2S with the same data coming from the main (SPDIF) outputs. There is a dedicated masterclock signal as well. Physically it is a 14 pin IDC header (see the photo above). The I2S output can be enabled/disabled via DIby AP - Vanity203 HD

That it a very interesting observation. Most people find the multichannel mix a bit plain and disintegrated. I guess it differs from one recording to another.by AP - Vanity103 HD & Lite
The best way to get stereo is play stereo content whenever possible (SACD/DVD). If there is only multi channel content available I would suggest to leave it to the OPPO to do the downmixing by selecting appropriate speaker config/downmix option. The Vanity module can do downmixing only for multichannel DSD, nothing else.by AP - Vanity103 HD & Lite
Yes, the concept of AES output will be the same as for the previous versions, but the output circuit modification will be much easier. From the extra features we will most likely implement the volume control (dithered with full 24 bit accuracy) and filter selection from the player's menu and a multi channel I2S output on an on-board header. Yes, filtering is one of many possible applications. At the moment the number of taps is limited to 2048. Regards, Pavelby AP - News & Announcements
Hi all, Here is something new again! Probably not as much interesting as the Vanity203HD, but I want to show you anyway For easier evaluation of our IP cores and any custom algorithm development the Audiopraise team has designed this universal FPGA board. There is a mid sized FPGA from the Spartan 6 family, plenty of digital audio inputs and outputs (one analogue output too) and our digital clby AP - News & Announcements
Hi all, Just to shortly recap this thread, we have the proto boards back from production and now we are working on the FPGA and MCU software. Once the software has been finalized it will take 5-6 weeks to full availability, again via JVB. They already have a pre-registration form. Use this form to make sure you get a board from the first batch. Any questions, please ask here. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity203 HD
Here we go, the Vanity203HD is born :-) There have been a few updates of the circuitry such as larger FPGA, more powerful regulators, higher precision DAC for the oscillators, onboard I2S output connector and USB interface for software update. Now the remaining piece of the puzzle is the FPGA and MCU software update, which we hope to get done in the next few weeks. Please bear with us, we areby AP - News & Announcements
Hi Rudi, Yep, we have a firmware version for Vanity93 and 103 with DoP output. The proto board for UDP-203 is in production and we hope to make it available in the second half of the year. Please have a look here. Regards, Pavelby AP - Vanity93 HD & Lite
Hi, Yep, it has been a while. We are still waiting for the prototype boards to come back from production. They should be in at some point next week. I will take some photos and post them here. The connectors are the mostly same, but physical dimensions and connector positions are slightly different, so you cannot fit Vanity103 into UDP-203. It would not work anyway, since the DAC and communicatiby AP - News & Announcements
